Genesis 16:13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” (NIV)
God told Abram that he would have children. And so Abram and Sarai waited patiently for their forever-growing family to start. Sarai took vitamins, she ate special food, and she paid attention to her menstrual cycle. She was going to find a way to start God’s family. But as hard as she tried, she could not get pregnant. She told herself that good things come to those who wait. And so she waited and waited and waited.
She turned forty and still she waited. Then she turned fifty, and still she waited. She told herself that anything is possible to God, even a fifty-year-old woman can give birth if that’s what God wants. And so she waited until she turned sixty. And that’s when she started to doubt.
Maybe she was not going to have a child after all. Maybe her womb was broken so badly that even God couldn’t fix it. But then she shook her head…
