40. What the prophets said (Isaiah, Amos, Micah, Joel)

Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (ESV)

Jonah was not the only prophet walking around telling people to repent. There were Amos and Isaiah, Micah, Joel, and several others. And they were also telling people to repent. “Repent, repent, repent,” they said. But their stories are quite different from Jonah’s. We don’t know much about who they were or what they did. Instead, we only know what they said.

And what they said was this: they were not happy. Not happy at all. They were not happy with Jerusalem. They were not happy with Israel. They were not happy with Edom, or Nineveh, or the Assyrians, or the family of Jacob, or really anyone.

Because everywhere they went, they saw the same thing. They’d pass big homes with pools and fountains and multiple garages and gardens and clubhouses and golf courses. And then, a mile later, they’d come across homeless children, or …
