22. The Freedom Plan (Exodus 5-15)

Exodus 12:51 And on that very day the LORD brought the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt. (ESV)

Moses was on a mission from God to save the family of Jacob from slavery, but he was not alone. His brother Aaron stood by his side. They were going to try and intimidate Pharaoh into submission by marching right up to him and puffing out their chests and saying with all the power they could muster, “Let our people go! Or else…”

But Pharaoh wasn’t impressed. And so he simply replied, “No, I prefer not to.”

That was disappointing. And so Moses and Aaron tried to trick Pharaoh. “When we said let our people go, we just meant let us go on a little retreat in the desert. I think we’ve worked long and hard enough over the last couple of hundred years that we’re due for a vacation. What do you say?”

Of course, Moses didn’t plan to bring the people back after their long weekend. They were just going to keep on going, and run away, and never come back. But Pharaoh must have guessed what they wer…
