Before Sodom was ever destroyed, before the shiny angels showed up at Lot’s door, before that whole terrible story, the very same angels came to Abraham. And they told Abraham what was about to happen.
Up to that point, Abraham had learned to trust God. And after years of trusting and following God, Abraham had come to believe that God loved him and his family. God was blessing them, and teaching them, and leading them. And God always seemed to know what was best for everyone.
But when the angels told Abraham about Sodom, it didn’t make any sense. It didn’t seem like the God he knew. Why would God destroy a city? Didn’t God already try destroying the people of Noah? What about the rainbow?
