Steve Young: The Law of Love

Steve Young is a 3-time Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers, a two-time NFL MVP, and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. When he retired, Steve was the highest-rated quarterback in NFL history and was the only quarterback in league history to win four consecutive NFL passing titles.

Steve is currently Partner and Chairman of Huntsman Gay Global Capital. He’s the founder and chairman of the Forever Young Foundation, an organization focused on passing on hope and resources for the development, strength, and education of children. Steve also serves on Faith Matters’ advisory board.

But today, we talked about something different: Steve’s written an incredible new book called The Law of Love, which was just published by Deseret Book.

As we read this book and talked with Steve, we were struck by the depth of his faith and wisdom, and by the passion that he has for teaching this eternal principle. As it’s put in the book, “The law of love is loving as God loves, seeking another’s healing, and expecting nothing in return.”

In the book and in the interview, Steve illustrates how a simple but profound shift from transactional thinking to non-transactional thinking — both in our relationship with God and in our relationship with others — has life-changing implications. Steve brings the principle to life with moving stories and experiences, which show how loving fully — as God loves — always works. As Steve says: “the law of love is undefeated.”

We can’t thank Steve enough both for writing this book, and for coming on the podcast to talk about it. It was obvious to us that he’s truly seeking to live “the law of love,” and we think you’ll feel that too.

And with that, we’ll jump right into the conversation.
