36: Elisha, who was nobody (1 Kings 19 - 2 Kings 2)

2 Kings 2:9-10 Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. (NIV)

In the last story, I told you about Elijah, who became a powerful prophet. This story is about someone different who also became a prophet. Unfortunately, the two men had very similar names, and so for the rest of history, people have struggled to remember who was who. And we are always confusing the one with the other. But while they have similar names, they were very different people.

Elijah, you already know about. He was a brave and powerful prophet who corrected Ahab, started a famine, was saved by a widow, and raised a child from the dead. And after that, he did more and more miracles and became famous. People would recognize him when he was coming. He was easy to spot because he always wore a red scarf.
