Is Ours the Only True and Living Church?
Join Terryl Givens as Philip Barlow as we discuss this Big Question, and find the link to watch the livestream here!
Doctrine & Covenants 1:30 famously alludes to “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth with which I, the Lord, am well pleased.” Given the offense and difficulties this language presents to many, what does this passage actually mean?
What might “ONLY” mean?
What about “TRUE”?
What about “LIVING”?
If there were to be a softer interpretation of the church’s uniqueness, how would this affect our mandate toward missionary work and vicarious ordinances for the deceased?
Come explore these questions and more with Terryl Givens and Phillip Barlow as we continue The Big Questions series. We invite you to participate, either in person or virtually, as we discuss some of the most fascinating theological and historical questions that will come up during this year’s study of the Doctrine and Covenants. We hope you find these conversations enriching and supportive as you walk the journey of faith.
In-person attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of these remarkable speakers. It’s an opportunity you won’t want to miss!
If attending Big Questions is cost prohibitive, please email events@thecompassgallery.com for details on need-based discounts. Standby seating is available for free (subject to availability) to students and young adults.
